South Africa, the Republic of Turkey, and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago... what do they have in common?
The commonality is that this edition of Unity chose South Africa, the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as it's countries to spotlight. This is not surprising given their rich culture, delicious cuisine, vibrant music, and traditional customs!
As you travel through the pages of this month's Unity, you will read about culinary creations that span the globe. Learn why the cuisine in South Africa is heavily influenced by both past and present culinary traditions, as well as why seafood is a large part of the Turkish diet. Further, learn why in Trinidad, the best compliment a cook can hope for is to be told he or she has "sweet hands."
In this edition, your mouth will begin to water as you read through some delicious South African, Turkish, and island recipes including Dhal Vegetable Curry, Stuffed Vine Leaves in Olive Oil, and Trinidadian Shrimp Creole.
Further, in this edition of Unity, Elizabeth City State University will take you on a Journey through Treasures of Fine Art. One avenue of experiencing fine arts at ECSU is to take a walking tour of the campus which enables one to visit the Fine Arts complex and studios, in addition to viewing their dispersed art collection in offices and locations around campus. Professor Alexis Joyner, Chair of the Fine Art Department, comments that "as artists and educators, we fully understand the iimportance of an art collection to a university." Several works of art from the collections of faculty and local artists who exhibit at the university are featured in this edition of Unity.
