Hispanic Heritage Month
 Celebrated September 15 - October 15

For the first time in modern history, Hispanic Americans make up the largest ethnic minority group in the country - comprising 13% of the population. September's edition of Unity celebrates Hispanic American Heritage Month, and we invite you to pick up a copy and learn about the art, food and people of a warm and passionate Latino culture.

Did you know that Hispanic people are entrepreneurs and very likely to own their own business, and a Hispanic 500 stock index tracks the progress and growth of Latino-owned businesses. You can find a wealth of information that will help you tap the Latino business environment at Hispanic Business.

Unity also takes a look at one of the most watched children's television shows in history, "Dora the Explorer". Find out what Dora was originally supposed to be, and how the creators designed the show to sharpen problem-solving skills among 2 to 5 year olds.

For businesses and communities wanting to reach out to Latino families, the National Latino Children's Institute is the perfect place to start. Find out how this prominent organization can help you craft a custom program for Hispanics in your community.

Want to learn how to dance? You should. It's great exercise and a fantastic way to meet new friends. Fortunately, learning to dance has never been more fun as Latin dances are the rage. From tango to merengue, there is a Latin dance that will suit your style. To search for lessons near you, click here.

Have you ever been interested in writing books for children? Pat Mora is a seasoned pro who is acclaimed for her bilingual stories. Click here to read her writing tips.

Once again, the art team at Picture That, LLC has provided a dazzling display of unique artwork from three Latino artists. Be sure to check out our September art centerfold!

Catalina is one of the premier magazines focusing on Hispanic culture, and you can find it in your local bookstore. We are proud to have their food editor, Chef Ramin Ganeshram, provide us with a few tasty recipes sure to make you long for the Caribbean.

Finally, we couldn't resist talking about America's National Pastime, since nearly 25% of Major League Baseball's players are Hispanic. There's no question that Latino players are providing new excitement to the sport, not just on the field but in the back offices as well.

Get your copy of Unity at the nearest Thompson dining facility, or download an electronic version. You can also enjoy recipies, explore additional stories, discover additional facts, and read our back issues of Unity by selecting the links on the right and below.
