African American History Month
 Celebrated in February

Unity kicks off 2007 with the much anticipated celebration of African American Heritage Month and a renewed focus on something of great interest here at Thompson Hospitality - FOOD! Delicious recipes and a chef spotlight is included in this edition, as we continue to appreciate diversity through the food, art, and contributions of world cultures.

This issue overwhelmingly celebrates extroardinary people of the African and African American communities that are taking leadership positions to advance the lives and societies of others.  For example, this Unity features "Jay-Z" Carter, who is bringing attention to the problems of scarcity of water, water-borne diseases, and water-related natural disasters that millions of people are faced with daily.  David Robinson, son of baseball great Jackie Robinson, is also featured in this issue.  Robinson, who lives in Tanzania, owns Sweet Unity Farms.  Robinson claims that his home, Sweet Unity Farms, is about helping African farmers regain equity in the coffee industry through direct trade.

And there's more - as you would expect. Learn about Executive Chef Sadruddin Abdullah's journey of how he became stuck on sweets.  Further, read about Charlene Shade, a highly acclaimed executive chef of both the Morgan Dining Room and Morgan Cafe in New York City.  Plus, enjoy The Morgan Dining Room's Lobster Salad recipe!
